What's the difference between toggle bolts and expansion anchors?
Toggle bolts use a spring-loaded wing that opens behind the wall, distributing load across a wide area—ideal for heavy items on hollow drywall. Expansion anchors compress outward within the hole, working best in solid materials like concrete or wood-backed drywall.
Do I need to pre-drill holes for all anchors?
No. Self-drilling anchors like the KURUI kit can be driven with a Phillips screwdriver. Standard plastic anchors require a drill bit sized to the anchor diameter. Toggle bolts need a hole large enough for the folded wing to pass through—typically 1/2-inch.
How do I remove an anchor without damaging the wall?
For plastic anchors, unscrew the screw, then push the anchor through the wall or pull with pliers. For toggle bolts, unscrew until the wing drops behind the wall. Patch the hole with spackle. Never yank sideways—this creates large holes requiring drywall repair.
