What size anchor do I need for wood studs?
For wood studs, skip plastic anchors and drive screws directly into the wood using 2" to 2.5" screws. If mounting through drywall into studs, use 2.5" screws that penetrate at least 1" into the stud. Plastic anchors are only for hollow-wall applications where studs aren't accessible.
Can drywall anchors be used in wood?
No—drywall anchors are designed for hollow walls and will split solid wood. For wood applications, use wood screws directly. The KURUI kit includes both: use the plastic anchors for drywall-only mounting, and the wood screws for direct wood-to-wood connections or through-drywall into studs.
What's the difference between plastic and metal anchors?
Plastic expansion anchors wedge against the wall cavity, supporting 25-75 pounds. Metal toggle bolts and molly bolts spread behind drywall, handling 100+ pounds. For wood projects, metal anchors are rarely needed unless mounting extremely heavy items to hollow-core doors.
How much weight can wood screws hold?
In soft pine studs, a #8 wood screw 2" long holds 80-100 pounds in shear. In hardwood, capacity doubles. The limiting factor is usually the pull-out strength from drywall (25-50 lbs with anchors) rather than the screw itself. Always mount heavy items directly to studs.
Do I need anchors for plywood?
No—plywood is solid wood. Drive screws directly into the plywood using wood screws. Anchors are only for hollow walls (drywall) or masonry where you can't drive into the base material. The KURUI wood screws work perfectly for plywood projects like building cabinets or mounting brackets.
How do I remove an anchor without damaging wood?
For plastic anchors in drywall, unscrew the screw, then push the anchor through the wall into the cavity. If it's in wood trim, use pliers to gently twist and pull. Never force it—cut the anchor head flush with a utility knife and spackle over it if removal risks splitting the wood.
