Can I install a bike pulley in a basement with drywall ceiling?
No. All pulley systems must mount directly into ceiling joists behind the drywall. Use a stud finder to locate joists, then drill through the drywall to secure lag bolts. Never anchor to drywall alone—it will fail immediately.
How much ceiling height do I need for a bike hoist?
You need at least 7 feet total height, with 4 feet of clearance above your handlebars when raised. In 8-foot basements, this leaves bikes suspended about 4 feet off the floor—perfect for walking underneath.
Are pulley systems safe for expensive e-bikes?
Yes, if you choose adequate capacity. Select a hoist rated for at least 100 pounds for e-bikes. Always test with a weight bag first, and check that the automatic brake engages properly before lifting your bike.
What's the difference between garage and basement bike hoists?
Garage systems have longer ropes for 10-16 foot ceilings. Basement hoists feature adjustable ropes, compact hardware, and often include corrosion-resistant coatings for humid environments. The Kradl rope-free design works especially well in finished basements.
Can I store two bikes on one pulley system?
