Can I cut outdoor LED strips to fit my space?
Yes, at marked cut points (usually every 2-4 inches). After cutting, you must reseal ends with silicone or end caps to maintain waterproofing. IP68 strips are harder to reseal than IP65—use manufacturer-approved connectors.
How much power do these budget strips actually consume?
Typical 5050 RGB strips draw 2-4 watts per foot. A 50ft strip needs 100-200W. Budget kits often include undersized power supplies—verify the transformer wattage exceeds strip consumption by 20% for safety and longevity.
Will the adhesive hold up in extreme heat and cold?
Premium 3M VHB adhesive handles -40°F to 200°F. Budget strips use weaker foam tape that fails above 100°F. Always use mounting clips for permanent outdoor installs, especially on surfaces that expand/contract.
Do I need a special transformer for outdoor LED strips?
Yes. The power supply must be UL-listed for outdoor use, housed in a weatherproof enclosure, and properly sized for voltage and wattage. 12V/24V DC systems are safer for DIY; AC 110V strips require electrician hardwiring.
How long do budget outdoor LED strips last?
