Can these locks be used on textured or porous surfaces?
No. Adhesive locks require smooth, non-porous surfaces like laminate, painted wood, or metal. Textured wood, brick, or porous materials prevent proper adhesive contact, causing premature failure. For these surfaces, screw-mounted locks are the only reliable option.
Will removing adhesive locks damage my cabinets?
Quality locks using genuine 3M adhesive remove cleanly when heated with a hairdryer and peeled slowly at a 90-degree angle. Cheap adhesives may leave residue or pull paint. Always test in an inconspicuous area first and never yank quickly—slow, steady removal is key.
At what age can toddlers typically defeat these locks?
Our testing shows most adhesive cabinet locks defeat 18-36 month olds, but determined 3-4 year olds with good dexterity can master them in 2-4 weeks. Door handle covers and Huglock-style devices remain effective through age 5 due to height and strength requirements.
Are adhesive locks as secure as screwed-in models?
Premium 3M adhesive locks hold 15-20 pounds of force—sufficient for toddler resistance but less than screw mounts. Screwed locks withstand 40+ pounds but damage surfaces. For most families, adhesive provides adequate security with major installation advantages.
Can I reposition a lock after installation?
