What's the ideal length for a tile setter's level?
10-12 inches works for most tasks. It spans multiple tiles while fitting in tight spaces. For 24x48 inch slab tile, use 15+ inches. Keep a compact 7-inch level for niche work and tight corners.
Are magnetic bases worth the extra cost?
Absolutely. Magnets free both hands for placing tile while monitoring slope. They grip wet saws for blade angle adjustments. On vertical walls, magnets hold the level while you mark studs. Don't buy without them.
How accurate does my digital level need to be?
±0.1° minimum for professional tile work. Anything less accurate misses lippage in large tiles. For DIY projects, ±0.2° is acceptable. Always verify calibration against a known square before critical installations.
Can I use these levels in wet conditions?
