What's the difference between deep-pour and tabletop epoxy?
Deep-pour epoxy has lower viscosity and slower cure, allowing 2-4 inch single pours without overheating. Tabletop epoxy is thicker, cures faster, and limited to 1/4 inch per layer. Using the wrong type causes cracking or incomplete curing.
How do I prevent bubbles in my epoxy pour?
Warm resin to 75-80°F before mixing, stir slowly, and pour in a thin stream. Low-viscosity formulas release bubbles naturally. For stubborn bubbles, use a heat gun at 6-inch distance—never a torch on deep pours.
Can I use these epoxies for cutting boards?
Only use FDA-compliant, food-safe epoxies like Promise Epoxy kits. Apply in thin coats, cure fully for 7 days, then wash before use. Deep-pour formulas aren't suitable for direct food contact surfaces.
How do I calculate how much epoxy I need?
Measure length × width × depth in inches, divide by 1.805 for fluid ounces. Add 10% for overflow and mistakes. For river tables, use painter's tape to seal cracks and prevent leaks during pours.
Why is my epoxy still tacky after 24 hours?
Tackiness indicates improper mixing ratio or incomplete curing. Ensure exact 1:1 or 2:1 ratios by volume or weight. Deep pours need 72 hours. If still tacky after 7 days, you must remove and re-pour—no fix exists.
Can I sand and polish cured epoxy?
Yes. Start with 120-grit and progress to 3000-grit wet sanding. Use polishing compounds for glass-like finish. Deep-pour formulas machine cleaner with less chipping than fast-cure resins.
