Hidden brackets insert into routed shelf cavities for invisibility. L-brackets screw underneath, leaving hardware visible. Hidden needs precise shelf drilling; L-brackets install faster but show industrial hardware. Choose based on aesthetic preference.
How much weight can floating shelves actually hold?
Most quality brackets support 40-75 lbs each. A 36-inch shelf with two brackets holds 80-150 lbs total. Heavy-duty brackets rated at 160 lbs per bracket can support tool collections or dense books. Always mount into studs, not just drywall.
What size bracket do I need for a 10-inch deep shelf?
Use an 8-inch bracket. The rule: bracket length should be 2 inches less than shelf depth. This hides hardware while preventing front-end sag. For 10-inch shelves, 8-inch brackets provide optimal support and keep the floating illusion.
Can I install floating shelf brackets on drywall only?
Never install on drywall alone. Always drill into studs or use toggle bolts rated for 100+ lbs. We recommend stud mounting for anything over 20 lbs. Drywall anchors fail catastrophically under shelf loads, especially with dynamic loading.
Will these brackets work for glass shelves?
