What's the difference between tile adhesive and mastic?
Tile adhesive is a modern polymer-modified thinset that offers superior strength and water resistance. Mastic is organic and can degrade in wet areas. For bathrooms, always choose true tile adhesive or epoxy-based products.
Can I install tile adhesive over existing tile?
Yes, but proper prep is critical. Clean thoroughly, sand glossy surfaces, and apply a bonding primer. Heavy-duty construction adhesives like Seocam work best for this application, creating a strong mechanical bond.
How long before I can use the bathroom after applying adhesive?
Most adhesives require 24-48 hours to fully cure. Fast-curing formulas like Seocam set in 2-4 hours but still need 24 hours for maximum strength. Avoid water exposure during the entire cure period.
Is peel-and-stick tile durable enough for bathrooms?
Quality peel-and-stick tiles like the Nexus line perform well in bathrooms when installed on clean, dry surfaces. They withstand normal foot traffic and moisture but may lift over time in standing water areas.
Do I need to seal the grout with these adhesives?
Adhesives bond tiles; grout seals joints. Even with waterproof adhesive, grout needs sealing to prevent moisture penetration. Use a penetrating sealer 48-72 hours after grouting for complete protection.
