Does GE actually make polyurethane glue?
No. GE Sealants currently focuses on silicone-based products. The GE361A is 100% silicone, not polyurethane. For true polyurethane glue, you'll need brands like Gorilla Glue or Loctite PL Premium.
What's the difference between polyurethane glue and silicone sealant?
Polyurethane glues cure rigid and expand 3-4x, creating structural bonds for wood, metal, and stone. Silicone sealants remain permanently flexible, making them ideal for sealing gaps, wet areas, and joints that move. They serve different purposes.
Can I use polyurethane glue on wet surfaces or underwater?
Polyurethane needs moisture to cure but cannot be applied underwater. Surfaces should be damp (mist with water) but not dripping wet. For underwater repairs, use marine-grade epoxy instead. Silicone can be applied to wet surfaces but not submerged during cure.
Why is my polyurethane glue foaming out of the joint?
This is normal expansion. You applied too much or clamped too loosely. Use 20-30% less than you think needed and clamp with firm, even pressure. Wipe excess foam with acetone within 10-15 minutes before it hardens.
Is Gorilla Glue the same as GE polyurethane glue?
No. Gorilla Glue is a polyurethane-based adhesive that expands when cured. GE does not manufacture polyurethane glue; their products are silicone-based sealants. Both are waterproof but have different applications and curing properties.
Which is better for outdoor furniture: polyurethane or silicone?
For structural repairs (broken joints, loose spindles), polyurethane provides superior strength. For sealing gaps and preventing water intrusion into cracks, silicone is better. Most outdoor furniture restorations benefit from using both: polyurethane for broken parts, silicone for sealing.
