Can I use these brushes with Graco paint products?
Yes. While Graco specializes in sprayers, their paints work perfectly with high-quality manual brushes. The Pro Grade and Transon sets performed exceptionally with Graco's latex and oil-based product lines during our testing.
What's the difference between flat and angled brushes?
Flat brushes provide maximum coverage for broad surfaces. Angled brushes (included in the Pro Grade set) offer better control for cutting-in edges, corners, and trim work. Most DIYers need both types for professional results.
How do I prevent brush marks when painting walls?
Load the brush sufficiently, apply paint in long, overlapping strokes, and maintain a wet edge. The Transon and Pro Grade brushes' bristle stiffness helped minimize visible marks in our wall-painting tests.
Are synthetic bristles better than natural for home painting?
For water-based paints, synthetic bristles clean easier and maintain stiffness. Natural hog bristle excels with oil-based products. Our tests showed synthetic blends offer the best all-around performance for mixed paint types.
How many flat brushes do I actually need?
Start with three: 1-inch for detail/trim, 2-inch for general cutting-in, and 3-inch for broad surfaces. The Transon 7-piece or Nicpro 10-piece sets provide this variety plus specialty sizes for future projects.
Why do my new brushes shed bristles?
Initial shedding is normal for lower-cost brushes. Our durability test revealed that brushes with epoxy-set ferrules and the Winsor & Newton professional brush shed less than 5 hairs total. Wash new brushes before first use to remove loose bristles.
