What size hinge do I need for standard bedroom doors?
Most interior bedroom doors require 3.5-inch hinges with 5/8-inch radius corners. Measure your existing hinge height and corner radius. For 1-3/8 inch thick hollow-core doors, standard duty works. Solid-core doors may need heavy-duty 4-inch hinges for adequate support.
How many hinges per bedroom door?
Standard 80-inch tall bedroom doors need three hinges. Doors under 60 inches can use two hinges. Taller doors over 96 inches or heavy solid-core doors benefit from four hinges for even weight distribution and preventing sagging over time.
Can I replace bedroom hinges without removing the door?
Yes, if you have removable-pin hinges. Knock out the bottom pin, support the door, then remove remaining pins. Slide old leaves out and new leaves in. For fixed-pin hinges, you must unscrew one leaf while supporting the door—riskier for DIYers.
Why do my bedroom door hinges squeak?
Squeaking stems from dry knuckles, loose pins, or metal-on-metal wear. Our tested no-squeak hinges come pre-lubricated. For existing hinges, remove pins, clean with steel wool, apply silicone grease, and reinsert. Avoid WD-40—it attracts dust and gums up.
