Our pull tests show 7X formulas require 40% more force to separate from surfaces. This translates to better performance in steam showers and areas with heavy cleaner use. For standard backsplash or low-moisture areas, 5X performs adequately.
How long must I wait before using my shower after caulking?
Tack-free time is 30 minutes, but full cure takes 24-72 hours depending on humidity and temperature. Wait the full cure period before exposing to direct water spray. Premature exposure causes adhesion failure and voids warranties.
Can I paint over these silicone caulks?
No. 100% silicone is inherently non-paintable. Paint beads, cracks, and peels within months. If you need paintable caulk, use an acrylic-latex hybrid, but expect to replace it every 2-3 years in wet areas. For lasting results, match caulk color to fixtures.

What's the best way to remove old silicone caulk?
Use a sharp utility knife to score the bead, then pull with needle-nose pliers. Remove residue with mineral spirits and a plastic scraper. Never use metal scrapers on acrylic or fiberglass. Ensure surfaces are completely clean before recaulking—adhesion fails on residue.
Are these caulks safe for use around food prep areas?
Once fully cured (72 hours), 100% silicone is inert and safe for incidental food contact. It's commonly used on sink edges and backsplashes. However, it's not FDA-approved for direct food contact surfaces like cutting boards. Always cure completely before use.
