Can I install a motion sensor switch myself?
Yes, if you have a neutral wire and basic electrical knowledge. Turn off power at the breaker, test wires with a voltage detector, and follow manufacturer diagrams. If your box lacks a neutral, hire an electrician or choose a wireless kit instead.
What's the difference between occupancy and vacancy modes?
Occupancy mode turns lights on automatically when motion is detected—ideal for dark basements. Vacancy mode requires manual activation but auto-shuts off, saving energy in rooms you might not occupy long. The Lutron Maestro offers both settings.
Are wireless switches reliable through concrete walls?
RF wireless switches operate at 433MHz, penetrating concrete and block walls better than WiFi. Our tests achieved 85-foot range through three walls. Keep receivers away from metal ductwork and place remotes on interior walls for best performance.
How do I handle moisture concerns with electrical switches?
Install switches on interior walls at least 6 feet from water sources. Use GFCI protection on the circuit. While switches aren't waterproof, UL listing ensures safe operation in humid environments. Consider wireless options to avoid cutting into damp walls.
Can these switches control ceiling fans and lights together?
