What’s the difference between a 15A and 30A light switch?
15A switches handle standard residential lighting and receptacle circuits (up to 1,800 watts). 30A switches like the ThunderWay are for dedicated appliance circuits, workshops, or 240V loads up to 3,600 watts. Using a 30A switch on a 15A circuit is safe but overkill.
Can I install these switches myself without an electrician?
If you can turn off the breaker and follow basic wiring diagrams, yes. Single-pole switches have three wires: line, load, and ground. However, consult a professional for aluminum wiring, no-ground systems, or if you’re unsure. Wireless options require no wiring skills.
Do I need a neutral wire for these switches?
Are decorator switches better than toggle switches?
Decorator paddles are wider, easier to operate with hands full, and look modern. Toggles provide definitive snap-action feedback and cost slightly less. Both last decades. Choice is aesthetic and ergonomic; performance is identical when UL-listed.
What does 'self-grounding' mean?
Self-grounding switches have a metal clip that automatically bonds to the metal electrical box, creating a ground path without a separate ground wire. The ThunderWay includes this feature. Always connect the ground wire if present; self-grounding is a backup method.
Can wireless switches control any light fixture?
The SURAIELEC controls any device plugged into its receiver outlet, up to 15A. It cannot control hardwired ceiling fixtures unless you install a compatible smart bulb. For wired fixtures, you need an in-wall switch like the BESTTEN or GE models.
