How long do rechargeable motion sensor light batteries last?
Most rechargeable units run 4-8 weeks per charge with typical use (5-10 activations daily). Battery capacity, brightness setting, and activation duration affect runtime. The MCGOR lasted 6 weeks in our tests on medium brightness.
Can I use these motion sensor lights outdoors?
Most indoor models lack weatherproofing and will fail in moisture. Only use lights rated IP44 or higher outdoors. All seven tested units are indoor-only and should not be exposed to rain, humidity, or temperature extremes.
What's the difference between cool white and warm white?
Cool white (5000K+) appears blueish and crisp—ideal for tasks. Warm white (2700-3000K) looks yellowish and cozy—better for ambiance. Natural white (4000K) splits the difference. Choose based on room function and personal preference.
How sensitive are motion sensors on these lights?
Most detect movement within 10-15 feet at a 120-degree angle. Sensitivity varies by model—some trigger on pets, others need human-sized movement. Many units have adjustable sensitivity to reduce false activations from HVAC or passing cars.
Can I turn off the motion sensor and use these lights manually?
Some models offer manual-on, auto-off, or always-on modes. Most budget units are motion-only. Check product specs for mode options. The MCGOR and RGB models include manual overrides; the puck lights and ceiling light do not.
Will motion sensor lights work during the daytime?
Most have built-in photocells that prevent activation in bright light. Sensitivity varies—some trigger in dim daylight, others only in near darkness. This saves battery but means they won't activate in well-lit rooms even if motion is detected.
