How do I sharpen a cabinet scraper?
File the edge perfectly square, then burnish a hook using a hardened steel burnisher. Hold the burnisher at 5-15° and draw it along the edge 3-5 times with firm pressure. This creates the microscopic hook that does the cutting. Quality scrapers need this every 30-60 minutes of heavy use.
Can I use a cabinet scraper on veneer cabinets?
Yes, cabinet scrapers are actually safer than sanders on veneer because they cut rather than abrade. Use a sharp blade and light pressure, working with the grain. The scraper removes finish without sanding through the thin veneer layer, which happens easily with power sanders.
Why are some scrapers curved?
