Most acrylics require 1-2 hours; silicone hybrids need 2-4 hours. Always check the cartridge—painting too early causes cracking. For oil-based paints, wait 24 hours. A fingernail test (no dent) confirms readiness.
Can I paint over 100% silicone caulk?
Pure silicone rejects paint. You must use a paintable silicone-acrylic hybrid like GE Supreme or apply a silicone-compatible primer first. Test first—paint peeling is common with non-paintable formulas.
What's the difference between silicone acrylic and pure acrylic caulk?
Silicone acrylic blends offer better flexibility, adhesion, and weather resistance. Pure acrylic is cheaper and easier to tool but cracks sooner and handles less joint movement. For exterior or wet areas, silicone acrylic wins.
How do I remove old caulk before applying new?

Is paintable caulk actually waterproof?
