How many pairs should I order for a typical kitchen remodel?
Standard 30-inch base cabinets need 2 pairs per pot drawer and 1 pair per standard drawer. Average 10x10 kitchen uses 18-22 pairs. Order 10% extra for miscuts and warranty replacements.
Can I mix slide brands in the same kitchen?
Not recommended. Soft-close speed and damping force vary between brands, creating inconsistent feel. Stick with one model per job for professional results and single-point warranty claims.
What's the difference between partial and full extension for contractors?
Full extension provides 100% access but costs 20% more. For deep pot drawers, full extension is non-negotiable. For standard 6-inch drawers, partial extension saves money without function loss.
Use rear mounting brackets or build out the cabinet sides with 3/4-inch filler strips. Some contractors prefer 20-inch slides to avoid face frame interference. Always test fit before bulk installation.
Most contractor-grade slides require 1/2 inch per side. For 5/8-inch drawers, add 1/8-inch shims or switch to undermount. Don't force narrow drawers onto side-mount slides—they'll bind and fail prematurely.
What's the failure point on budget slides?
Ball bearing cage collapse under side load is the most common failure. Budget slides use stamped retainers that deform. Pro-grade uses welded cages that maintain alignment under 100+ lb loads.
