Can I replace side-mount slides with undermount soft close?
Yes, but you'll need to remove existing brackets and potentially modify drawer boxes. Undermount slides attach to drawer bottom and cabinet side walls, requiring 1/2" to 5/8" clearance on each side.
Why do my soft close slides slam shut in cold weather?
Hydraulic damper fluid thickens below 50°F, reducing damping force. Premium slides use synthetic fluid rated for -20°F to 150°F. Move to interior installation or upgrade to cold-rated dampers.
What's the difference between 75 lb and 100 lb capacity?
100 lb slides use thicker steel and larger ball bearings. For kitchen applications, 75 lb handles most uses, but 100 lb provides margin for heavy pots, files, or tool storage. The cost difference is minimal.
How do I fix drawers that don't close fully?
First adjust height screws to level the drawer. Then adjust depth screws to position the drawer front 1/16" proud of the cabinet face. Finally, fine-tune side-to-side alignment. Check for obstructions in the locking mechanism.
Are bulk 6-pair kits lower quality than individual pairs?
Not necessarily. Bulk packs often use identical slides with simplified packaging. Focus on weight rating and adjustment features rather than packaging. Our tests found no quality difference between bulk and single-pair offerings from the same manufacturer.
Do I need rear mounting brackets for every installation?
Yes. Rear brackets prevent slide deflection and premature wear. They also maintain proper spacing between slides. Skip them and you'll experience wobbling, misalignment, and potential slide failure within 6-12 months.
