Painting — FAQ
What's the difference between makeup primer spray and paint primer spray?
Makeup primer sprays create a skin-safe barrier that extends cosmetic wear and improves application. Paint primer sprays contain bonding agents and resins designed for surfaces like wood or metal. Never interchange them—paint primers contain chemicals unsafe for skin, while makeup primers lack adhesion properties for surfaces.
How long should I wait after applying primer spray before foundation?
Most makeup primer sprays dry in 30-60 seconds. Wait until the product feels dry to the touch and slightly tacky—this indicates optimal foundation grip. In humid conditions, extend wait time to 90 seconds. Applying foundation too early causes pilling and uneven coverage.
Can I use oil-control primer if I have combination skin?
Yes, but apply strategically. Spray oil-control primer on your T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) where oil production is highest. Use a hydrating primer on dry cheeks, or apply the oil-control formula everywhere and add extra moisturizer to dry areas before priming.
How many coats of spray primer do I need for furniture?
One coat of Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover primer is sufficient for most surfaces. Apply a light, even coat covering 70-80% of the surface, let dry 1 hour, then apply topcoat. For raw wood or dark colors, two light coats improve coverage and prevent bleed-through.
Are primer sprays better than cream primers?
Primer sprays excel at creating an ultra-thin, even layer without pilling. They work faster and provide more natural results. Cream primers offer targeted application for problem areas. For full-face priming, sprays deliver superior speed and consistency; for spot correction, creams provide more control.
How should I store primer sprays between uses?
